Imlant Removal Service

We started this new service to help women with contraceptive implants that are difficult to remove. Most implants are correctly placed under the skin in the upper arm. Rarely however the device cannot be felt when the time comes to remove it. This may be because the device was placed too deeply initially, and sometimes because the user has put on weight making the implant impalpable. These patients need referral to a specialist service, of which there are a number throughout the country. The device needs to be located using a special ultrasound scanner prior to removal. At Westside Contraceptive Services in London we have developed a one-stop shop for removal of deep, impalpable, implants using minimally invasive surgery under ultrasound guidance that leaves only a very small scar. We are happy to see all women whom we can help. Referrals are made through the GP. Patients without a GP will also be seen, but need to be referred by a doctor or nurse.

The service is based at Raymede Clinic.
